Social Marketing

Social Networks:

What are they? The short answer.

Social networks are sites such as MySpace.com and Facebook.com where people create profiles of themselves, communicate with others, search for information and numerous other activities that allow them to create personal networks.

Social Marketing:

The how.

There are two key apects to the advertising platforms on social networks such as MySpace® and Facebook®.

The first is search; this works on the same basic principle as your search engine marketing with Yahoo® or Google® . People search from within the network to find information on people, places or things and bids are placed on the search keywords. The ad of the highest bidders are displayed. The ads can contain an image of the product and up to 200 characters of text. The ads are clickable and can be linked to any page on your website.

The second and most important aspect of social network advertising platforms is the ability to target users by the information contained in their profile.

Here's an example;

To market mid or full-size pickups and off-road vehicles we could select terms such as "trucks", "hunting and fishing", "mountain biking" and then even narrow it down to males age 20 or older.

Your ads are displayed when those terms are searched for as well as on any members personal page whose interests include trucks and activities include "hunting and fishing". And yes...these ads are targeted to people in your city or geo-graphic region only.

Ok, wrap it up:
